What is the Acropolis? The Acropolis, located in the center of Athens on a hilltop, has been a hub for the city since 400 B.C.E. when most of it was constructed. Meant initially for the honor and praise for the goddess Athena, the Acropolis has served a multitude of purposes over the centuries of its existence. From construction to destruction to construction again, the Acropolis has seen many wars, influx of power, and change. Through it all, the Acropolis as a whole has continued to be ever present with its past history and still lives on its legacy in Athens. We can see its deeply rooted presence in the surrounding area to the Acropolis, in restaurants, shopping, and tourist attraction.
